I am a conformist

Monday, December 4th, 2006

I too shall have a drawing blog and will fill it with every ounce of mediocrity I can muster. I promise to do my best to update this thing often with stuff that I am not proud of and shall earn me no admirers. Wow, that’s like the last ten years of my life crammed into one crappy place. Ciao!

Yay, Pooh Gas!

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

I’ve changed the text on this post noticeably as I was getting a lot of feedback that I was being extremely negative with myself and apparently I am pissing people off by doing so. So lets just say this background that I painted up in Photoshop in 30 sec. is really crappy. However, the little dood getting some pooh gas in his face is extremely funny.

Conan the Barbarian

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

I had a friend named Chris who was a few years older than me when I was in my preteen years. He introduced me to two very important things before I ever hit high school: punk rock and Conan the Barbarian. He took me to what was at the time called a “hall show” in downtown Flint. It was an all day event that took place on Labor Day weekend, 1988. Over 20 bands played. None of them famous, they were all local, but at that time most of them blew me away because I’d never heard anything like it. When we weren’t listening to bands, we were skateboarding around downtown Flint (which hadn’t completely fallen into decay yet, but it was close). I wound up staying the night at one of Chris’s friend’s house with a bunch of other kids and I had a blast. We didn’t do drugs or drink or anything like that. It was totally innocent and very mind-expanding.

What’s this have to do with Conan? A week or so later, Chris gave me two entire boxes filled with Mad Magazine and Conan comic magazines. At the time I ate up every comic book I could find, but Conan was amazing. The art was way better than anything else I had been collecting at the time. Plus the covers always had some woman with Conan whose cleavage was going to fall out of what was passing for a top. So here I am, drawing Conan about as well as I can.

Getting Hammered

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

I won’t be posting for a while as I shall be in Michigan with mi famille for the holidays. So to keep with the holiday cheer, here’s a tribute to Hammer horror movies. I’m basically just trying to keep the mood of the movies without referencing any particular one.

Still Hammered

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Here are some more preliminary drawings I have been working on for my next comic project (that hopefully won’t fall on its face). Its a Victorian-era horror story that I’ve pretty much written out in its entirety. I want to try and make the images more like 1920’s style cartooning, but still make it macabre.

Kirei na ono noko

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Here’s an illustration I did for a friend as an experiment for one of his projects. I basically cribbed from a real painting. It was drawn with a brush and colored in Photoshop.

Switching subjects, my comrade Coire invited me to a meeting of fellow Bay Area comic artist and it was a good time. I met some great artists and people and got a lot of encouraging feedback on my recent comic work. I of course couldn’t help but feel as socially awkward as I usually do (I talk a lot when I’m nervous and have a habit of shooting my mouth off when I don’t mean to), so I hope I didn’t come off badly. Anyway, I hope to post some links to everybody’s work sometime in the future.

Adults only!

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

I have a lot of material in my sketchbooks that I never post because of the content. I’ve generally tried to keep my web page clean, but unfortunately this has meant that some of my best doodles never make it to the net. So here is the deal, DO NOT CLICK ON THE IMAGE BELOW UNLESS YOU ARE 18 OR OVER! There’s nothing really raunchy, just a bunch of nujidity, but some peoples get their panties in a bunch just from mention of the word “nipple”. Arigato.
